The Creative Cross-Cultural Storytelling program based in Hue, Vietnam is a three-week cross-cultural experience that ran for the first time in 2025. During this program, students from James Madison University’s School of Media Arts & Design produced multimedia stories that explored different aspects of Hue’s cultural heritage—from its traditional practices to its delicious cuisine.

Through a partnership with Hue University’s School of Foreign Languages and International Studies, students learned from Vietnamese faculty experts and connected with local Vietnamese students who served as interpreters in the development of their stories.

Students had the opportunity to explore historic and cultural sights, savor a wide variety of local food and drink specialties, enjoy some of Vietnam’s beautiful beaches, and visit multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

During the course, students compared cultural factors that influence approaches to storytelling, and engaged with historical realities that helped shape these cultural differences. Students documented their learning through written reflections, photo essays, podcast interviews, and the creation of social media video content. This website is the repository for their stories.
